new 20 inch asus LCD computer monitor for my new computer is not sharp. what do i do?

the resolution is matched with my computers' at 1600x900 but there are "shadows" and blurriness with everything. my (parents) computer is new too with integrated graphics. could that be the problem? Should I get them a smaller monitor or can i do anything that would fix the problem?
