How do I setup a LCD Monitor from my VGA connection?

I have a laptop that has a VGA out on the back. I was wondering if I could get the small display of my laptop onto the 20 inch LCD monitor I bought recently. If so what will I need and need to do to get it to display properly on the 20 inch?
